Japan: PS Vita gets massive sales spike

Sony’s PlayStation Vita has finally received a much-needed shot in the arm in Japan, with sales of the device spiking 150 per cent week-on-week.

Punters flocked to the high-tech handheld on the release of Persona 4: The Golden, which debuted in first place on the software charts with a massive 137,000 units sold.

PS Vita itself took second place on the hardware charts with just over 34,000 units sold, beating out PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3, though failed to supplant 3DS. Nonetheless, it’s a significant milestone for the format, which has struggled to set tills alight on its home turf for some time now.
