Insomniac's Overstrike may get pushed to 2014

The first multi-platform game by Insomniac Games wowed us when it made its trailer debut at last year's E3, but things have been quite silent on the Overstrike front in the many months since. Now, a source close to PSU has indicated that a long wait could be in store for fans eager to play the latest new IP from the creators of Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance.

Specifically, our source - who must remain anonymous - confirmed that the retail sector has been warned not to expect Overstrike until Early 2014. A release during the holiday period of 2013 could not be ruled out, but extra time for development and polish, alongside a desire to avoid competing with yearly heavy-hitters like Call of Duty, make the first few months of 2014 an ideal launch window.

While details about this shooter remain closely-guarded, we know that Insomniac is bringing its signature style of subtle (and not-so-subtle) humor to a world of spy action and espionage. The four agents of Overstrike 9, each with a marked history of refusing to complete missions by-the-book, are called upon to extinguish a major terrorist threat with all manner of high-tech gadgets and weapons. The setting is intriguing, so it's a shame that we'll have to wait so long to get our hands on the final version.
