HEAVY RAIN VS. THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM
The Contenders:

Heavy Rain
Quantic Dream's psychological thriller was a totally unique concept for PlayStation 3 owners and featured game controls that brought player interactivity to a whole new level. Filled with drama, mystery, and suspense, the dark, rain-soaked atmosphere and mature storyline was as engaging as the search for clues and the perfectly-paced QTE fight sequences. Incredible graphics and sound have scarcely been used better to heighten an already tense atmosphere. Put simply, Heavy Rain made you feel like you were the star of your own movie, and became an instant classic on PS3 thanks to its unique blend of storytelling and interaction.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was probably the most-anticipated RPG sequel of all time, and it didn’t disappoint. Traversing the open world of Skyrim on foot or horseback, never knowing what or who you might stumble upon, was incredibly exciting and showcased the vast and highly detailed gameworld. With engaging character development and hundreds of quests that take you from dark dungeons and quaint towns to snowy mountains and battles with giants, Skyrim has depth, variety and personality. Character design was exemplary and the large roster of enemies ensured that players had to adapt their fighting styles, with intense dragon battles providing many highlights. Skyrim is an absolute juggernaut and, despite its PS3-specific technical issues, a clear contender in this tournament.
Which of these two games deserves a spot in the coveted Final Four? Cast your votes in the official polling thread, and be sure to vote in all Round 3 match-ups. Only you can choose the Best PS3 Game Ever.

Heavy Rain was my favorite game for quite awhile. The atmosphere, the mechanics, the plot, the emotion, the visuals and the creativity. It was my favorite game until I played Skyrim from 12:15 am to 9am after picking it up at the midnight release. It has its own atmosphere. Maybe you've seen this part so many times that the effect has worn off on you, but think back to the opening scene of the game that begins with you appropriately opening your eyes on the road to Helgen, at once thrusting you behind the eyes (and if you play in third person, you need to be put to work in the mines of Markarth because you're really missing the point) of the role you will assume for hundreds of hours and revealing the majestic landscape that you will have free reign over. A lot of individual things about Heavy Rain are better and I do hope to see many games in the future that take inspiration from it. But in the end, it's not a game's separate components that win out, it's how the game made you feel. And Skyrim hooked me and sucked me in for hundreds of hours -- and that doesn't mean it was a mere time sink; it was time well spent. -
