Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2, teased in this week's Famitsu that the next stage in the Final Fantasy XIII project will be announced at the Final Fantasy series anniversary event.

Referred to as the Lightning Saga, Kitase plans to reveal more when the anniversary event is held from August 31 until September 2, and the official Lightning Saga topic will be covered on September 1. He didn't detail the project yet, but he did say that the project has recently started production, and the project will receive an official title at the official presentation in September. Until then, unfortunately, we can only speculate on what could possible happen with the Final Fantasy XIII series. PSU will keep you informed as more information arises.

while final fantasy 13 wasnt a bad game at all and was a pretty cool rpg with imo a decent story and characters, it's strongest point was it's face paced turn based battle which I thought was the best in the series... However this game isn't worthy of bearing the name of the much loved series though and I find it odd that they insist on making these sequels.

The best thing about Final Fantasy use to be: YOU DIDN'T NEED SEQUELS!
The story would be told and you would move onto a new world in the next game...

I wouldn't mind XIII-3 as long as it was more like XIII-2 but god do I hate Lightning as a character

I didn't like XIII, and I think a lot of old school FF fans feel the same way.  Why they continue to keep making sequels on this game is beyond me.  I agree with Chaos2313:  The best thing about Final Fantasy use to be: YOU DIDN'T NEED SEQUELS!
The story would be told and you would move onto a new world in the next game...

FF has been lost on me for a while though.  After IX the games lost their luster for me.  They became to easy aside from the Arena or Monster challenges (however some of these bosses gave up actual diffictulty in favor of insane amounts of hit points), the stories and characters seemed weaker somehow, and the game play became much to linear.
