UPDATE - The following statement relating to the leak has been published on the official PlayStation blog.

"There was an unexpected and unintended leak in our beta that allowed fans to be able to see some additional content. We’ve enjoyed reading all of the fan reaction and are thrilled that so many of you are excited to learn more about our character roster and level mash-ups, however we are still in development and the leaked content does not fully represent the final product nor the incredible efforts that were made to make these elements truly spectacular. This will be evident in the coming weeks as this content is officially revealed, beginning with our next character announcement at Gamescom in a couple of weeks."

Following the deluge of leaked information about PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale that landed this week, Sony has allegedly released an official comment, which has been quoted via a Game Informer employee’s Twitter account.

Jim Reilly tweets “Sony says PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal leaked content "does not fully represent the final product." Next character reveal at Gamescom.”

So far we have information, some of it official some of it rumour, revealing that there will be 20 characters in the PlayStation All-Stars, 14 stages, 17 weapon and items and a host of game modes.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is due for release on October 23, 2012 on PS3 and PS Vita.

I was wonderieng if/when they would respond. Interesting choice of words though.

"does not fully represent the final product"

seems that this all but confirms everything in the leak, yet indicates there is much more (which would make sense since the leak seemed incomplete..). I suppose it's impossible to tell if the leaked info was near the final roster/maps (or if they planned to continue teasing two characters at a time) but keep in mind that data was extracted from an early build.

Hopefully there will be no more leaks so gamers can still be surprised at some of the content. The interesting thing about this game is that the developers have to strike a balance between what they reveal to intice gamers who on the fence, and what they keep secret for those who are already on board and want to be surprised

Either way, this should force them to show off all the info from the leak. I hope gamescom is heavy on PSASBR, vita, a new ps3, and gaikai
