Report: Irrational cuts two BioShock: Infinite multiplayer modes

Developer Irrational Games has shelved two multiplayer modes for BioShock: Infinite, reports Kotaku.

Apparently, one of the modes would have shrunk players and placed them inside an old arcade machine, before pitting them against waves of toy enemies.

The second was named Spec Ops, and focused on co-op gameplay for four players tackling various stages from the main campaign.

BioShock father Ken Levine previously made it clear that the studio was tinkering around with possible ideas for multiplayer:

“As I’ve always said we are experimenting with things, and only if they are good enough will we put them in the game.”

Evidently the above modes were deemed not up to scratch, and as such ended up on the cutting room floor. However, it remains unknown if any other multiplayer modes are still being considered.

In related news, Irrational Games has welcomed the addition of Rod Fergusson, formally of Gears of War creators Epic Games. This echoes previously reports that two key Irrational devs – Tim Gerritsen and Nate Wells – had departed the company this week.

Writing on Twitter, Fergusson commented, “Yes, it’s true, I’m leaving my family at Epic to join my new family at Irrational in Boston starting tomorrow.”

BioShock: Infinite is scheduled for release on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in February 2013.
