Quantic Dream big cheese David Cage has dropped a heap of new info on his studio’s forthcoming PlayStation 3-exclusive, Beyond: Two Souls.

First up, Cage confirmed that he penned the entire script for the game, which clocks in at a massive 2,000 pages. Unsurprisingly, this resulted in a hefty amount of lines for the cast to memorize.

Said Cage: “Our actors all had to learn their lines and deliver them from memory. Ellen [Page] had hundreds of pages worth about three or four movies.”

“We gained another dimension in the actor’s performance as we used full performance capture to record body language. If you look at me as I say this, you can see how I’m saying it. You lose that in motion capture.”

Quantic Dream has invested heavily in the process of performance capture, whereby an actor’s body, face and voice is recorded in sync. By contrast, motion capture – another popular method employed by many videogames today – records movements of the body only.

The company’s latest game, Heavy Rain, featured extensive use of motion capture, though Cage wants to avoid this process in the future. He also noted that Heavy Rain and Beyond are similar in terms of budget, and dispelled the perception that the latter is about paranormal activity.

“This game is not about paranormal events. It’s about relationships, growing, and about how the different moments in your life define who you are. It’s about death, about something that will happen to all of you here one day. It’s about emotions people feel, how they think, how they act and how they fear death – about what lies beyond on the other side," he said.

Beyond: Two Souls is due out on PS3 in 2013.
