The latest issue of Famitsu has spilled the beans on Yakuza 5's overhauled battle system.
According to the publication, SEGA has improved a number of elements for combat, including motion and enemy A.I.
Battles this time around will blend seamlessly into the adventure portion of the game, regardless whether you are having a punch-up with street thugs or brawling with more powerful enemies.
Players may find themselves wondering around town only to be set upon by a gang of foes, forcing you to defend yourself on the spot.
Also detailed is something called Climax Heat, which appears to be some sort of enhancement over the previous games’ Heat Action technique. This allowed players to unleash a special attack after building up your heat gauge.
Elsewhere, teen sensation Haruka boasts her own unique battle system in the form of a rhythm action game. Five genres will be present, namely hip-hop, house, idol, jazz and rock. The goal is to battle rival dancers, allowing you to build up a gauge and then perform Dance Heat moves.
Battles culminate with Haruka being judged by spectators. If you win, you’ll accumulate expression power, which is instrumental in building Haruka up to win the Princess League idol tournament.
Yakuza 5 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 3 in winter 2012. A western release has yet to be confirmed.
