Sony believes that it won’t just be PlayStation fans who pick up the bulk of new super slimline PS3 models due for release next week, but Xbox 360 owners too.
Speaking with GameSpot, PlayStation VP of hardware marketing John Koller claims that there’s been a lot of interest from Xbox 360 customers since the PS3 ‘Super Slim’ was announced earlier this week.
"We have seen a very high interest rate from Xbox 360 consumers wanting to purchase a second console," he said. "We've held up Uncharted 3 as our flagship product over the last year and it's a good opportunity for those types of consumers to come over and own a second console in their household."
“We saw the same kind of thing happen in reverse during the PS2 years when a lot of PS2 consumers said they wanted to get an Xbox because of Halo and some other games. So we think the strategy works and it's a good one.”

The new PS3 model will be 25 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter than previous models and will be less power hungry, consuming approximately 190 watts. Due to launch on Friday, September 28, it will cost around $269 (£249.99) for the 500GB model, which will come packaged with Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and DLC for Dust 514. A 250GB super slim PS3 will launch in October.

Is there any other spec. upgrades from the last version?...I don't think the system being smaller and less power hungry will be able to draw as big as a crowd from Xbox 360 as they think they will.

Not surprised. PS owners have been buying Xboxes left and right as well. We are getting more and more cross over.

It is so freakn tiny.. Wow thats small.
Just look at the PS3 as compared to the controller.
I might actually give my 60gb backwards compatible up for this. I don't play PS2 games anyway so theres no need for it and also I only really need 2 USB ports. If it had a card reader, I would buy this in a second! Thats the only things thats kind of holding me off from getting it.
If you were in my position and given my lack of need of PS2 playability. Would you sell your Original fat and trade buy on of these?

@6 I wouldn't get rid of my original PS3 for this unless it broke. Although this is vastly improved over the original slim, the launch model PS3s were by far the best and most stylish. Aesthetics is a big thing to me, as seeing as this model's only improvements are the size/weight and power consumption, I'd only 'upgrade' to a newer version if I had to.
