Sony has pledged that it will continue to support PlayStation 3 for the next couple of years, promising an “incredible line-up” for its flagship console for 2013 and beyond.

Chatting with GameSpot, John Koller, vice president of hardware marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) , commented:

"We're going to continue supporting the PS3 for the next few years. Absolutely," he said. "And we're going to continue supporting it not only that long, but as long as there is a development spigot that's running hot.”

"And I can tell you right now, the development spigot for PS3 is very hot. A lot of great games coming. Same thing with PS2…it's kind of stuck around as that old warrior, many years after its launch. But there's still games launching for it."

Among the biggest upcoming PS3 releases include The Last of Us, the post-apocalyptic adventure from Naughty Dog, and Quantic Dream’s hugely ambitious Beyond: The Two of Us. If that wasn’t enough, Kratos is also returning to our screens with God of War: Ascension.

Of course, those titles are due next year, so how about 2014 and beyond? Fortunately, Koller insists the quality titles on PS3 won’t dry up any time soon, promising more “great content” over the next 2-3 years.

“A lot of great content is coming," the executive said. "And over the next 2-3 years, the PS3 has got an incredible lineup. That consumer coming in this fall is going to really have an opportunity to have great content and what we believe to be the best content in the industry. Yeah, we watch what the competitors do, but we don't make decisions based on what they do. We like our position."

Sony recently announced a 'super slim’ edition of PS3, which is due to hit retail shelves at the end of September.
