Grand Theft Auto V has officially been locked for a Spring 2013 launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Rockstar Games has announced.

In addition, the company also revealed that pre-orders for the open-world crime epic would kick off on November 5. Curiously, a PC version wasn’t mentioned.

The news comes following a slew of retail promotional leaks which all but confirmed the game would be out next Spring, though up until now it official confirmation on platforms had remained elusive.

“Grand Theft Auto V builds on everything we’ve learned about open world game design,” commented Rockstar Games founder, Sam Houser. “We can’t wait to share it with fans.”

GTA V takes place in the fictional setting of Los Santos, and is Rockstar’s most ambitious open-world project to date. Little has been shown on the game since its unveiling last October, though fresh info is expected to drop next week.

I knew it...would have bet everything I have that it was going to be next spring...now I bet the first release date will be in March...but won't actually come out (because of delays) until May...any takers?

May 2013 is a safe bet.

GTA IV came out on the 29th of April while Max Payne 3 was released in May. The PC version will most likely drop in the fall.
