Call of Duty: Black Ops II has what it takes to become the biggest-selling videogame of all time, reckons Activision’s Eric Hirshberg.
The executive dropped the comments during the publishing giant’s Q3 financial results overnight, where he also revealed consumer awareness of the hotly-anticipated sequel is at an all-time high.
"Developed by our team at Treyarch, the game has the potential to be [the] biggest selling game of all time, to passing Call of Duty: Black Ops," he said.
"And the buzz to date has been tremendous. YouTube views are nearly double those for Modern Warfare 3, Facebook engagement is up more than 150 per cent and the Black Ops 2 multiplayer reveal from GamesCom became the largest live stream event in Xbox Live's history.”
“And the Nielsen's first choice survey, which measures both unaided awareness and purchase intent, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 tops the list and is at an all-time high for the franchise."
Call of Duty has smashed entertainment records for the past three years, a feat that Activision is keen to perpetuate with Black Ops II. Early signs, however, indicate the game is doing well, eclipsing pre-orders set by Modern Warfare 3.
"Looking to the launch, we're working incredibly hard with all of our partners around the world to make Call of Duty the biggest entertainment launch of all time for the fourth consecutive year.
"Pre-orders for Black Ops 2 continued to track ahead of Modern Warfare 3, which is no small feat given that MW3's was the most successful pre-order program of all time."
"There are always risks when trying to grow a brand that is already performing at record-setting levels. So while we're optimistic, we're still planning prudently. We look forward to sharing details about our successes with you over the weeks ahead."
Call of Duty: Black Ops II takes place in two time periods: Cold-War era 1980s and a near-future setting of 2025. Also returning is the popular Zombies mode, this time sporting its own unique campaign.
The game will be released worldwide on November 13, 2012.

Activision always talks about having the best selling game of all time, but they never mention Super Mario Bros. Even games like GTA San Andreas and Gran Turismo 3 have sold more than MW3

Yea they said that last year as well along with the year before that. They just like to state the obivious cause it will. We can thank all those 15 yr old kids and under for this. The only reason im getting it is cause of the SP campaign which isnt that bad and the zombies. I might try the MP for a bit but im pretty sure its gonna be garbage. The last good one to me was MW2.

I bought the past 4 or 5 COD games on launch.. I won't be doing the same for this one, the multiplayer perks look so dumb. I really don't like waht they did, the only reason I will buy this game eventually is because of Zombies. I think a lot of people will agree with me on that, I also know a few people who will buy this game just because of Zombies.
