PlayStation 3 has sold 30 million units across PAL territories since its launch in March 2007, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has announced.

SCEE President and CEO, Jim Ryan, commented: “This is a major milestone for us and clearly shows just how popular the PlayStation brand and products are within Europe and the PAL territories.”

“We are really pleased with the success of the PS3 system over the last six years, and are committed to continuing our support of the platform with high quality products and titles that are of the caliber that PlayStation fans have come to expect.”

PS3 has to date seen two redesigns, namely the Slim and Super Slim, launched in September 2009 and September 2012, respectively. Since launch Sony has also introduced PlayStation Plus, available for €49.99 per year, which gives users access to a heap of extra content including Cloud storage and free games.

In terms of worldwide sales, Sony’s black behemoth has moved around 70.2 million units as of September 30, 2012.
