Every PlayStation 4 console will come bundled with a headset, confirmed Sony following the reveal of its next-generation console in New York City yesterday.
Via a press release, Sony stated: “Combined with the Mono Headset that will be bundled with PS4, gamers will also be able to chat with friends playing online, while hearing sound effects from the controller in hand.”
The headset will connect to the jack on the DUALSHOCK 4 controller enabling players to chat during online games, though we’ll also be able to hear sound through the controller, confirmed Shuhei Yoshida, President of SCE Worldwide Studios, via the official PlayStation Blog.
This is good news for gamers, who had to buy a headset separately when purchasing a PS3. Sony has yet to show-off its new cans, but we’d expect to see more at E3 later this year.

Awesome sauce, having a headset jack built INTO the controller was ingenius!
Seeing as how sony usually supports all generic devices with these decisions, it'll be great to hook up any headset, or headphones directly to the controller, no need for special usb headphones/headsets for high-fidelity audio. I just hope it supports standard stereo headphones too.

Looks to be a standard headset jack on the controller, I just hopw it doesnt kill the battery faster than the PS3 controllers even with out all that stuff, I'd still like to have Bluetooth headsets as a back up though I have too many of the little buggers sitting around to not use one.

Thats really good to hear, a lot of people are going to dig that. No wonder the new controller has a headphone jack on it, just like the 360 controller.

I think having the headphone jack is a really good choice for SONY. I'm just glad that we have the option to use our Bluetooth devices as well because I do prefer it and have already spent those bills. Like Alpha I worry a little about the battery life due to all the add-on's of the motion light, head phone jack, and the speaker as well (not sure about the touch pad). Here's hoping SONY puts in a stellar battery!
