Mass Effect Universe Trailer Offers A Tantalising Glimpse At BioWare’s Cancelled Sci-Fi Epic

A trailer for Mass Effect Universe, the cancelled next entry in BioWare’s celebrated sci-fi space epic, has emerged online offering an intriguing glimpse at how the game was shaping up before EA pulled the plug.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier was able to verify that the trailer is indeed the real deal. “Can confirm that this is a real trailer of the Mass Effect game that BioWare was developing up until its closure yesterday,” said Schreier.

The trailer itself uses pre-production assets and was being worked on by a small team at BioWare, and features plenty of action and depicts the various familiar races of the Mass Effect universe, such as Asari, Krogan, Turians, and Salarians. We also get to see Liara at the end of the trailer, before a big fight breaks out. As expected, the game takes place after the war against the Reapers as depicted in the original trilogy.

Mass Effect Universe was cancelled by EA this week after the publisher decided to close BioWare as part of another wave of layoffs, which saw some 400 jobs cut. A former BioWare veteran revealed this week that the new Mass Effect game would have featured an unprecedented level of autonomy and choice that no other game has been able to achieve.
