Shuhei Yoshida, head of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS), has confirmed that current PlayStation Network purchases and saves will not transfer over to PlayStation 4.
Speaking with Engadget, Yoshida-san explained that the reason these features will not make the transition to Sony’s next-generation console is due to the disparity between PS3 and PS4 architecture.
Sony announced PS4 last night during a PlayStation Meeting in New York City. See our handy hub for all the coverage.
PS4 will launch in holiday 2013. A price point has yet to be confirmed.

I wonder if they'll still use the data in the future if developers update the games they've made for PS4 (i.e. Velocity HD)

But we can keep our PSN ID the same though?

not wanting to give false hopes, but the Gaikai guy said something like "but we're working on it ..."
I haven't bought much PSN things, but some did, and Sony sure knows it and if Gaikai can offer to have all the PS3 games and content on the PS4, the least of things would be for people that paid good money for these to have fre access to this content on PS4 by Gaikai or another way.
This problem has to be solved obviously, as for the XBXOX it will just be an upgraded console and of course they'll keep what they have bought. Anyway, if no solution, that would mean that all poeple that will buy a PS4 should not buy anything more on PSN, and those that want to keep all will not buy the PS4.

I hope they give a 1 time username change when they launch PS4. Some of us dummies didn't know it was a screen name when we signed up for an account!

That was to be expected. Thats why you keep your PS3's. =)
Im pretty sure that we will be able to transfer out account from one console to the other, along with the trophys.

It's still stupid the whole point of Backwards compatibility is to reduce the number of old consoles littering your entertainment center, and Gaikai is not the answer because you;ll likely have to be a PSNplus member to access the content and that amounts to paying for your games AGAIN.

I wonder what this means for PSPlus, and what will happen with PSN on PS3 will they shut it down after maybe 2 or 3 years of the PS4 life cycle just to many question that hopefully will be answered at E3.

I am betting the answer is NO, which will suck, but makes sense as it not overload the account with trophies you cant earn

Can I not transfer them? Or will they not be there? There's a big difference. If you can make a working PS4 version of the game, then why not let me download the games I've already bought on my PSN ID?
