PlayStation 4 release may not be global in 2013, details still being 'worked through'

Responding to a question about whether the PS4 2013 launch window applies to Europe, SCEE's UK managing director, Fergal Gara told Digital Spy that the console will launch this year in “at least” one region, but "exactly what regions, what timing, is being worked through.”

The PlayStation 4 was revealed to the world at the PlayStation Meeting last week where it was revealed the console will launch “this Holiday season”. However, it wasn’t confirmed whether it would be a global launch or restricted to specific territories.

The launch of the PS3 was staggered across the world with Japan launching the console first in 2011, followed shortly after by a U.S. release. Europe had to wait until March the year after to get their hands on Sony’s console.

In the interview, Gara confirmed that specific details on PS4 launch will be revealed at a later date: "Which regions in 2013 - is it all of them, is it some of them? Is there some degree of phasing? We'll reveal that in more detail later but we can't yet," he commented.

I really can't see it happen. I'm European and I would love it, but I guess Japan and NA are going to be the lucky ones

Back on topic, sure, like every console first japan and US than 3 months later in the EU, I'll call that tradition, while will things change with the PS4?

I wouldn't mind if Sony did it old school, and did certain regions at a time. When they tried doing a global launch with the PS3, it was a disaster. Sony was 825,000 units short from their launch goal. I just don't see it happening. But, Sony might just go for it anyways with the PS4. We should find out at E3.

It's probably going to be the NA region. The U.S is Sony's biggest consumer.

BIG MISTAKE , if PS4 does not get released worldwide at the same time, and if Xbox does SONY will lose ton of costumers they are not going to wait for the PS4 if the new xbox is out everywhere

I really don't see a simultaneous worldwide launch happening, it didn't happen with the ps1, the ps2, the psp, the ps3, nor with the psvita. It's always been Japan, then Asia, then America, then UK and Europe, I don't see that really changing.

Should be a simultaneous global release, there's no real reason to launch it in one region first. After all, isn't that what the Wii U did? Unless there are sever faults and Sony intends to test the console out first, then I think it could only be good for them to do a global release.
