[UPDATE] EA CFO: PS4 games may cost $69.99 near launch

UPDATE: Polygon has obtained comment from an EA representative on Jorgensen’s statements. According to EA’s rep, Jorgensen meant to characterize a general trend of declining retail prices over the course of a console generation, and that he intended to use $59 and $49 as examples, not $69.99 and $59.00.

Original: At a Morgan Stanley investor webcast moments ago, Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen indicated that next-gen video games may retail for $69.99, $10 more than the current retail norm of $59.99.

Jorgensen was asked about a possible increase in retail costs for PS4 and Xbox 720 games and mentioned that such an increase has happened in every generation, followed by a slight decline in prices as each generation runs its course. In order to cover transitional costs for "Gen4" development, Jorgensen expects that next-gen video games will retail for $69.99 for some time, before the market dictates a slight decrease back to the current $59.99 standard.
