The Last of Us 'probably' coming to PS4, says Pachter

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter said that Naughty Dog is ‘probably’ working on a PlayStation 4 version of The Last of Us.

Chatting on the latest episode of Gamertag Radio, Pachter said the post-apocalyptic adventure is likely to hit Sony's new console, citing the current trend of cross-gen development. Furthermore, he also predicted the decline of third-party exclusives in the next console cycle.

"The only guys who should make exclusive next-gen titles are people who get paid for it, which means first-party or someone that they pay up for an exclusive," said the analyst.

"First-party... like what's The Last of Us going to be? That's coming out in June. Is it going to be next-gen too? Probably. My guess is that that thing gets onto the next-gen. Watch Dogs is next-gen and current-gen, you know?"

"A lot of guys are doing [cross-gen development] but it's really hard to be exclusive, it really is," Pachter added. "So exclusives [are] gonna be only first-party titles unless, like I said, Epic did Gears of War exclusive because they got paid to be exclusive, and I'm not sure you're going to see those any more.

"We'll see, but I think everybody's going to be on everything because that's just the right business model."

The Last of Us is due out on June 14, and sees humanity brought to its knees following an outbreak of a deadly fungal virus. Players control Joel and must escort a young girl named Ellie out of the quarantine zone in Boston, scavenging for essential supplies while battling enemies, some human, others not.

I'm pretty sure Pachter has alot of free time at work to think about how sore his bottom is. Sitting around all day on a fat wallet is a tough job but someone has to do it.

    Poor Pachter.

It won't be on the PS4. That would piss off all of Naughty Dog's bigger fans who will buy the game on Day 1. Releasing a better version of the game later would essentially be a slap in the face to anyone who is excited enough to buy the game soon after release.

Poacher aside, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to make it one of the release games on the PS4 for the reason that it may sway other people to buy PS4. If I had an Xbox and was looking to buy a next gen, games like these exclusives could sway me to the PS4. Just sayin.......

He's an idiot because he's randomly stabbing in the dark for things that sound like they might actually happen rather than making educated predictions based on actual evidence. If there was a concerted effort by developers to produce both PS3 and PS4 versions of every big title dropping in the second half of this year then maybe he might have a decent argument, but so far we've heard about maybe 3 or 4 games (Destiny, Watchdogs and Diablo3 specifically) that are even considering releaseing on both. Pachter guessed on a PS3 price drop announcment based on the Japanese PS vita price announcment, and he was dead wrong, while a similar prediction about the US vita based on that info was welcomed because it made sense. Although a lot of people including myself guessed it to be almost inevitable, but just not at that time (more than likely at E3 with only a few months left to go before the PS4), I'm starting to realise now that it's not just the fact that he's just blindly tossing out possibilities it's that everytime he does he tries to sound so positive that it's a certainty that when he's inevitably wrong it makes him look even more like a fool.

I wonder how much Pachter gets paid just to produce so much s**t.
