[UPDATE] Report: Dead Space 4 cancelled

Dino Ignacio, UI Lead of Visceral Games, today denied that the Dead Space series has allegedly stopped.
Electronic Arts representatives have come up front and spoken out against the earlier report, but their statements have been rather vague outside of pre-existing Dead Space titles. Dino tweeted, "The reports of our death were greatly exaggerated." After the report was proven false, Creative Director at EA Ian Milham attested to the Dead Space series remaining in existance, but he clammed up when he was asked by Jaime Griesemer, Lead Designer at Sucker Punch, if Ian essentially confirmed that Dead Space 4 was in the works, to which Ian replied, "I confirm nothing except the hooey in that story."
Look into it how you will, but the only thing that's been confirmed is that the Dead Space series is officially still in existence.
Publishing giant Electronic Arts has pulled the plug on the unannounced Dead Space 4 following less-than-stellar sales of the third instalment.
That’s according to an anonymous source close to VideoGamer.com, which claims the next chapter in the sci-fi horror franchise was in pre-production at Visceral Montreal prior to its axing.
However, EA bigwigs decided to scrap the game’s development after “visiting Visceral Montreal to inform staff that the project had been terminated an announce details of the company’s restructuring.”
Dead Space 3 was released in early February. While it remains unknown just how many units the game sold, EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau commented last year that Isaac Clarke’s latest adventure would have to sell in the region of five million copies globally in order to secure the series’ future.
In the U.K., Dead Space 3 managed to crack the top spot on the All Format Charts, though launch sales were down 27 per cent in comparison to its predecessor.
Critical reception to the Necromorph-slaying sequel hasn’t exactly been glowing either, with PSU.com coming away quite disappointed in our review.
Stay tuned for more information.

Kinda sums EA up, doesn't it
I'm one of the people who bought the first two and loved them but didn't buy the third. They had a good format, why mess with it? I can't imagine stripping out the horror and adding co-op and micro transactions was Visceral's idea.

It's too bad EA killed such a promising franchise. The suits that decided to try and make it a more "mainstream" action game are a bunch of idiots. Then, on top of that, the best solution they come up with is to just cancel it altogether. Why not take the major hint and return Dead Space 4 to its survival horror roots? It's really a shame that such morons are at the helm of making these kinds of decisions.

Sounds to me like normal service is being resummed at EA. At the start of this generation they seemed willing to take comercial risks, with the likes of Mirror's Edge and pushing Battlefield Bad Company as a truly different FPS experince to the ever present CoD, they actually earned a bit of respect from me. However, in recent years we've seen them put pressure on BioWare to trash Mass Effect as an RPG and turn it into an action adventure game... or a a poor mans Gears of War... at the expense of a truly outstanding possible gaming milestone. We've seen them turn BF3 into a pale impitation of CoD and now we get them killing arguably one of the best new franchises to arise from this generation *shakes head* where did it all go wrong EA? Very sad to see they'd turned Dead Space into Gears of Space just like they did with Mass Effect, it's like somebody has forgotten to tell them that variety is the spice of life. If the rumours of them making cosy with Microsoft this generation are true then I'm not sure it'll be that huge a blow to the Playstation at all.

Thats too bad, DS was an excellent series. I haven't played the second one yet, but will be soon. Now the third, I think I'll wait a while before checking it out. I don't support EA, so I'll wait to find it in the bargin bin in the future.

I'm not surprised, this reminds me of the old EA that made certain I would never get another Dungeon Keeper game.

Typical EA fanfare. Disgraceful that such a low brow company has its mitts in the share of some of the best thinkers in development. On the other front, it seems a lot of companies are making it a trend to break past gaming models to make it "mainstream". Profit over quality hurts gaming as a whole.

I actually liked resident evil an it sold over 5 million not what they expected but it still seems to sell but dead space is game you just don't change the core was intact every game is not meant for co-op or multi player I'd pick a great story game or those two things any day what a shame

DS is really boring if you asked me. DS1 was great, but it got old real quick.
