Knack on PS4 to have free Android and iOS app, more to come say Sony

In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Sony has revealed that some PlayStation 4 titles will be supported by apps for Android and iOS devices.

The first game that will get the app treatment is Knack. Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios, had this to say on the reason for introducing app support for upcoming next-generation software:

" What we’re saying now is that we’ve totally changed our approach to mobile products like smartphones and tablets. In the past, we felt like these guys were competition to our portable games, in general – but now, everyone owns these smartphones and tablets. It’s like everyone had a PC before – it’s a tool that people use every day. Why not try to include them in the PlayStation ecosystem?"

Yoshida-san then commented on Knack and its accompanying app:

"We’re releasing a puzzle game themed around Knack that you can play for free. It’s fun, and by playing the game you earn some items that you can use on PS4. People might be motivated, because they’ve already unlocked some items, to take a look at what this Knack game on the PS4 is all about."

As of yet there is no release date for the Knack app or any others, but it’s almost certain they will be launched alongside the PS4, or when their connected game is released. App support for the PS4 is a great idea, and we think it can only help Sony increase their share of the console market.
