Japanese PS Vita sales so far in 2014 nearly 2.5 times the amount same time last year

The latest sales statistics from Japanese market research company Media Create show Japan’s PlayStation Vita sales numbers so far this year are nearly 2.5 times the quantity sold during the same time period last year.

Four weeks into 2014, the Vita has successfully sold 157,669 units in Japan. Meanwhile, the first four weeks of 2013 in Japan saw only 63,181 Vita sales. With the PlayStation 4 still absent from Japan, what could cause the increased numbers for the Vita? For one, the slim Vita model helped, which featured a smaller size, improved battery, and most of all, a cheaper price. Additionally, a stronger library of games contributed to increased demand for the Sony portable. A number of major titles launched in 2013 with heavy-hitters Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster and God Eater 2 being released at the end of the year.

Japan will receive more hit games for the Vita throughout 2014, such as Hatsune Project Diva F 2nd, Love Live! School Idol Paradise, Freedom Wars, Phantasy Star Nova, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Monster Hunter: Frontier G, and more. With a strong lineup of software, the Vita will easily find continued success in its home country.
