During a keynote speech at PlayStation's February Showcase in Los Angeles today, Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller has disclosed a number of stunning statistics pertaining to the company’s newest gaming machine.

Crucially, PS4 owners spend 34 hours per week out of a total of 50 playing the system, giving credence to Sony’s assertion that the place for gamers was indeed still that of the PlayStation brand. More than 90 percent of PS4s are connected to the internet, compared to just 70 percent of PS3s three years into its lifespan. And in addition to this, gamers have clocked up a stunning 172 million online hours since launch back in November.

In terms of Sony’s much-touted ‘Share’ functionality, it was announced that 1.7 million hours have been livestreamed, while the Share button itself has been used for the capturing of images and video 48 million times.

In fantastic news for the future, Sony‘s market share has increased among "heavy gamers," with Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and FIFA 14 sitting pretty at the top of the list.

Undoubtedly, it’s all green for Sony at the moment, and 2014 looks set to be an incredibly exciting year for all things PlayStation. As ever, let us know what you think below and stay tuned to PSU for more updates from the event.
