UPDATE: inFAMOUS: Second Son DUP Easter Egg Discovered

Correction: The article below originally listed Redditor "TheChaosController" as the source of information. New information, however, shows that the actual source is YouTuber "finngamer," who uploaded a YouTube video that contained the DUP Hotline number. The article and related links have been corrected accordingly.

inFAMOUS: Second Son is coming very, very soon, to the delight of the many gamers who have been earning it Most Anticipated awards all over the Internet. As that glorious March 21, 2014 release date approaches, Sucker Punch has been exciting those gamers with tidbits of the game, from screenshots to gameplay videos.

It seems Sucker Punch has taken that a step further. YouTuber "finngamer" recently published a video that included a certain phone number, and asked his viewers to call it and see what happened. Redditor "TheChaosController" (thumbs up for the Sonic reference!) did just that and published the results.

If you’re in the United States and you'd rather enjoy the full experience for yourself, ignore that link. Go ahead and pick up your phone. Open your phone app, if you use a smartphone. Dial 1-844-HELP-DUP, (or 1-844-435-7387). You have just called the hotline for the Department of Unified Protection, the organization fighting against conduits (apparently known as “bioterrorists”) throughout inFAMOUS: Second Son.

“Thank you for calling the Department of Unified Protection,” says a voice in the manner of every machine recording ever. “Please stay on the line for an important message from our director, Brooke Augustine.” It then launches into a thought-provoking public service announcement about bioterrorism, Cole McGrath, and… well, it may be better to allow you to discover the details on your own.

Hype for the next inFAMOUS game is higher than ever. The game recently went gold (meaning the packaging is being printed, discs are being put into shiny blue cases and prepared for shipping to stores), and Sucker Punch Productions is methodically tailoring its promotion to make gamers invest themselves into the story behind the game. Every promotion so far, from Nate Fox’s initial announcement of the game back in February to this today has been very story focused. Meanwhile, Sucker Punch has allowed screenshots and video clips to talk about the gameplay and graphics for themselves.

Can other upcoming games generate this much excitement? Watch_Dogs, for example, once held the unofficial Most Anticipated title, but has lost much of its momentum since its delay. Can it get that hype back? Are you excited for inFAMOUS: Second Son? We’d love to chat with you a few clicks below.
