The Last Guardian was unveiled too early, says dev

Former Team ICO developer Fumito Ueda has conceded that the studio may have announced The Last Guardian too early.

Speaking in light of the game’s absence from the Tokyo Game Show this week, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida-san also moved to reassure gamers that the ambitious adventure is still targeting a PlayStation 3 release.

“I give you my word that it exists. We are working on it,” a member of the Last Guardian team told Kotaku.

“There are lots of pieces of the puzzle. It’s a matter of getting them to fit together,” he added.

The Last Guardian was announced at E3 2009, and has made sporadic trade show appearances ever since. However, late last year Ueda-san left Team ICO to pursue development of the game in a freelance capacity, and since then we’ve heard very little on the title.

Sony has reiterated numerous times that the griffin-meets-boy romp is still heading to PS3, but this still hasn’t stopped speculation running rampant that the project is being quietly shifted to PlayStation 4, codenamed Orbis.
