PS4’s DualShock lightbar is always on

Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, has confirmed that gamers will be unable to switch off the lightbar on the PlayStation 4’s DualShock controller.

Yoshida-san revealed the news on Twitter in response to a fan, who quizzed the executive on whether the lightbar could be switched off to save battery life.

Sony unveiled the DualShock 4 alongside its next-generation console during an event in New York City back in February. The lightbar itself works alongside the camera to ascertain the pad’s position in 3D space, and also has functions in-game too, such as a health bar display for Killzone: Shadow Fall.

PS4 is scheduled to ship this holiday season.
