PS4's TGS 'epic fail' explained by Shuhei Yoshida

Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS), has taken to Twitter to comment on the technical hiccups that have plagued the PlayStation 4 at E3 and the more recent Tokyo Game Show.

For those out of the loop, Sony’s next-generation powerhouse ran into a few problems at E3, notably when it crashed briefly during a live presentation of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. In addition, the PS4 failed to respond to the DualShock 4 and the PlayStation App during a live demo in Japan at TGS.

When quizzed on the E3 hiccup, Yoshida-san responded, “that was a game and the system still in development, not throughly tested.” Asked to elaborate on the TGS misfire, he added, “wireless interference on the show floor.”

On a more humorous note, Yoshida-san was then handed the link to a report on DualShockers highlighting the mishap, to which he replied, “thanks for the link, an epic fail (-_-)”.

Of course, Sony isn’t the only one who has been a victim of technical issues during live shows. At this year’s E3, Microsoft ran into some problems with the Xbox One presentation of Battlefield 4, which experienced some sound issues.

Likewise, Nintendo back in 2010 fell victim to motion-control misfires during its demo of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which resulted in creator Shigeryu Miyamoto blowing himself up with bombs and missing a target with Link’s slingshot multiple times, despite being in close proximity to the enemy.

PS4 is scheduled to arrive in stores on November 15 in the U.S. and November 29 in Europe.
