Borderlands heads to the moon in new ‘pre-sequel’ — report

The next chapter in the critically-acclaimed Borderlands franchise is a ‘pre-sequel’ set on the moon, according to the folks at gamepointsnow.com.

The website claims to have exclusive information on the title, which is set in the five year gap between the original Borderlands and its sequel. As mentioned, it takes place on the moon, specifically the Elpis & Hyperions H shaped moon base seen in Borderlands 2.

Borderlands: The Pre-sequel is a co-op shooter RPG and will be released for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360, and won’t be coming to next-generation systems.

Handsome Jack returns for this latest title, albeit as a programmer named John and hunting down a powerful alien artifact. Four of Jack’s lieutenants will be selectable: Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer and Fragtrap.

The game incorporates a host of weapons to get to grips with, including two all-new types in the shape of Laser weapons and Cyro weapons. Lasers of course have become synonymous with moon-based combat, so their inclusion shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Naturally, given the nature of the game’s setting, oxygen will be a chief concern for your character. As such, you’ll be able to loot it in the shape of OX-Kits. The inclusion of this new feature adds a whole new dynamic to Borderlands’ gameplay, as players will have to juggle their oxygen levels while battling with foes and exploring.

However, it also works to your advantage too. For example, you’ll be able to shoot your opponent’s helmet to deprive them of o2 while in the heat of battle, giving you the upper hand.

Right now, nothing official has been announced, though the site is clearly confident in its find, and assures readers that we’ll hear more soon.

So, treat it with a pinch of salt until now, but stay tuned to PSU.com for more details. In the meantime, post your thoughts below.
