Rocket League dev talks aggressive future plans – power-ups, new game modes and ‘game-changing’ events possible

Rocket League’s future content will include a combination of free and paid-for DLC including new cars, decals and rocket boosts, but it may also feature the likes of power-ups which would add new layers of strategy to the fast-paced, tactical sport’s game.

Speaking with PSU, Psyonix confirmed news of its firm plans for Rocket League in the immediate future, stating that it will continue support the game with new content.

“Our future plans for Rocket League are VERY aggressive. We plan on supporting the game with frequent updates, patches, enhancements, and more, that will include a mix of both free and paid DLC. That includes new Battle-Cars, Decals, Rocket Boosts, Antennas, Wheels, and other things,” said a Psyonix spokesperson.

“Our update schedule will be pretty regular, but we don’t have any specific timelines to share yet. All new Maps, however, will ALWAYS be free. And our first one, inspired by the original Battle-Cars map, Utopia. We have a lot of other ideas floating in the pipeline too.”

Talking about other possibilities, Psyonix said that it will be keeping an eye on fan-feedback which will help shape future decisions on what other features it may include down the line.

“Weapons aren’t something we plan to add in Rocket League — but power-ups are possible. New game modes and game-changing events/ items will be based on community demand and where our players want to take us!”
