Titanfall 2 dev says PS4 is ‘easy to get to grips with’

Respawn Entertainment Producer Drew McCoy has touched on the process of bringing Titanfall 2 to the PlayStation 4, following the series’ genesis on Xbox formats.

Speaking with OPM UK, McCoy admitted that while jumping to a new console is typically a tough gig due to the disparity in system architecture, the PS4 wasn’t much of a problem to get to grips with.

We’ve been through [this process] multiple times. Usually, when you add a new platform, it’s pain and suffering, because they’re so different in their architecture and development platforms. But honestly, the PS4 is pretty easy to get to [grips with] because the architectures aren’t that different, the tools are good, and everyone’s figured out how to make software now,” said McCoy.

It still took a to of really hard work, but we had amazing engineers….but it wasn’t the type of thing where it was like, ‘Oh God, we never thought about this. How are we going to handle this?’ Nah. It’s a lot of hard work but it’s smooth sailing.”

As report yesterday, Respawn boss Vince Zampella said during the same interview that the decision to bring Titanfall 2 to PS4 boiled down to opening up the series to more players.

Titanfall 2 release date confirmed for fall 2016 alongside Battlefield 1

Electronic Arts announced at E3 2016 that Titanfall 2 will launch worldwide on October 28, 2016. The game is released in close proximity to Battlefield 1, another major EA-published title, and aims to combat server downtime with support from Multiplay Game Services.

The original Titanfall was released for the Xbox One back in spring 2014 and was one of the earliest must-have exclusives for Microsoft’s current-generation console.
