The chaps at Reddit have today posted a tantalizing Assassin’s Creed Origins screenshot leak ahead of the game’s rumored appearance at E3 next month.

While not the best of quality, the screenshot clearly provides confirmation that the new Assassin’s Creed game will feature the return of naval elements, at least as far as traversal goes. It’s not hard to imagine that the rumored combat features of past games will also make a comeback.

According to the insider who posted the screenshot, Assassin’s Creed Origins will feel like a combination of traditional Creed antics with a pinch of Black Flag, the latter we’re assuming referring to the naval combat. There will also be a modern setting incorporated into the game at some point, although he’s not saying much more on that subject. The game will supposedly run on a ‘revamped version of the Anvil Engine.’

Assassin’s Creed Origins is the long-rumored title of the as-yet unannounced 2017 entry in Ubisoft’s stab-happy franchise. The game is reportedly set in ancient Egypt, and will kick start a brand new trilogy that will supposedly also include Rome following Ubisoft’s decision to rest the franchise over the past few years. Originally, the project was titled Assassin’s Creed Empire although that now appears to have changed.
