Retail giant Amazon Japan has leaked the standalone Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered release date, listing the upcoming first-person shooter for a June 20, 2017 launch on PlayStation 4.
It’s worth pointing out that while nothing official has been confirmed as of yet, the date just so happens to be the same one that GameFly had previously posted. Amazon Japan also listed the Xbox One release for July 20, which likely has something to do with Sony’s one-month timed-exclusivity deal with Activision for Call of Duty content.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered was originally bundled with the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Premium Edition, and at the time Activision said that it would not be released separately. The game includes a number of enhancements over the original 2007 release, including high-definition visuals and improved sound effects, plus updated multiplayer maps.
The original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is hailed as one of the greatest first-person shooters of all time, and was responsible for reinvigorating the franchise after a period of critical and commercial decline. The game introduced a contemporary setting for the first time in Call of Duty’s history, which up until that point had been dabbling in World War II, as well as a brand new cast of characters including the fan-favorite Captain Price and Soap.
This year’s entry in the series is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, and will return to WWII battlefields for the first time since 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War. The shooter will focus on the latter stages of the conflict, as the U.S. 1st Infantry Division pushes back the Nazis across Europe during the period 1944-1945.
