Sony has narrowed down the Gran Turismo Sport release date during its pre-E3 2017 event, confirming the PlayStation 4-exclusive racing simulation title will launch in fall 2017.

The game was originally planned to ship in late 2016, although developer Polyphony Digital later confirmed that the game needed more time in the oven, and so opted to push the game into 2017. Sony also said during its livestream event that the game will run at 60fps in 4K resolution on the PS4 Pro, so those of you who have the hardware available will be in for a visual treat. HDR support was also touted.

Gamers were able to get a taste of this latest instalment in the venerable racing series earlier this year, with the Gran Turismo Sport beta rolling out a few months back. While not a numbered title, the latest Gran Turismo title is very much a full-fledged entry into the Sony-exclusive franchise, featuring a full career mode, diverse vehicle lineup, and dynamic weather effects. PlayStation VR owners can also take the VR Tour Mode for a spin to boot.

The Gran Turismo series launched back in 1997 for the original PlayStation, and quickly established itself as one of the most successful racing game series on the market. Sony followed GT with a sequel in 1999 and since then the franchise has appeared on every major Sony platform to date, bar PS Vita. To date, the Gran Turismo series has sold over 76 million copies worldwide across PSOne, PS2, PSP, and PS3 formats.
