LittleBigPlanet Karting is more than a spinoff, it’s an expansive new game

Even though LittleBigPlanet Karting carries all the signs of a simple spinoff, it’s actually a brand new game with an expansive world, Kyle Zundel, Sr. Producer for LittleBigPlanet Karting, told PSU. The game is in development from Media Molecule, the creators of LittleBigPlanet, and United Front Games, the creators of the PlayStation kart racing game ModNation Racers. Zundel told PSU we can expect more than a ModNation game starring sackboy.

“LBP Karting offers more karting modes than MNR, including a Battle Mode and open arena Waypoint Racing,” Zundel said.

Both LittleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers focused on user-generated content and sharing this content with friends around the world. You could build levels in both games, and trick out your characters with outfits and all sorts of collectibles allowed you to individualize the experience.

LBP Karting will continue that tradition, but it’s not stopping at the basics. “In addition, the LBP Karting level editor allows players to create more than just tracks; creators can modify game rules, create weapons, and more,” Zundel said. “It’s important to remember that LBP Karting is filled with a huge range of additions and improvements, as well as a brand new engine. It is, fundamentally, a new game built within an expansive, 3D world and an experience that expands the possibilities of the LBP universe exponentially.”

You can look for sackboy’s brand new world and storyline when it launches exclusively on PlayStation 3 later this year.
