The Child’s Play charity, founded in 2003 by creators of the Penny Arcade web-comics, Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, helps make things just that much easier for sick and injured children in hospitals worldwide.
As gamers, we tend to joke around a lot, and even sometimes act completely foolish—like on Podcast Derailed. But sometimes, some of us can be warm-hearted and generous. Sound crazy? Take a look at how much money some of us raised for charity at this year’s Child’s Play Gala and Auction.
The gaming community helped raised $351,000 by bidding on rare games / gaming merchandise. This brings the total yearly contributions to this year’s Child’s Play charity to $1.95 million.
Among some of the prizes won at the auction were a Half-Life Gravity Gun ($21,000), a Nintendo World Championships NES cartridge ($11,500), and even a guest star role in a Penny Arcade comic ($10,000).
It’s absolutely fantastic and heart-warming to see that gamers can come together for a greater good. We need to do this more often…
…like when the zombie apocalypse finally arrives.
