Sony’s unveiled plans to invest a whopping $20 million dollars in the platform holder’s Pub Fund to facilitate the development of exclusive games for PlayStation Network.
The program was originally unveiled at the Game Developers Conference back in 2009, and provides companies with an additional budget for which to invest in making innovative, exclusive titles for Sony’s flagship online service.
According to the press blurb, "SCEA helps with game design and marketing plans but allows the developer to own the game’s intellectual property, publish the title and set the price."
Burn, Zombie, Burn! was the first game to see release under this initiative, with the program already grabbing lots of attention from independent developers in the shape of upcoming games including Eufloria, Okabu, and Papo & Yo.
Brendon Stander, director of PlayStation Network marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), commented, “PlayStation Network is poised to deliver an enviable line-up of exclusive and imaginative games this year, with highly anticipated first-party titles like thatgamecompany’s Journey and PixelJunk Sidescroller.”
“We’re doubling down on PlayStation Network software, and under this additional investment over the next three years, we anticipate a steady flow of high-quality titles that can’t be found anywhere else.”
