The Last Guardian making ‘slow progress’

Long-delayed PlayStation 3-exclusive The Last Guardian is still chugging along the development tracks, though is making ‘slow progress,’ Sony has said.

Speaking with 1UP, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida revealed that designer Fumito Ueda still makes regular trips to Team ICO HQ to work on the ambitious project. Ueda left the company as a full-time employee in 2011, and now works on a contract basis.

“He comes in every day, and he’s probably one of the people who works the longest hours,” said Yoshida-san.

“The project has been making progress, but slow progress. So that’s tough, but we haven’t changed any focus. It’s still a really important project and a vision we want to see realized, and Fumito’s vision is really causing a very difficult challenge for the developers, so there’s some scrapping and rebuilding — iteration in the process. That’s why [it’s taking so long].”

Elsewhere, Yoshida remained hopeful that Ueda may continue to work with Sony following completion of The Last Guardian.

"If this project goes well — you know, fingers crossed — we’ve worked with him for a long time so yeah I certainly hope we can maintain a relationship," he said.
