UPDATE: Metal Gear Solid V announced, is Ground Zeroes & The Phantom Pain combined

UPDATE: A Kojima Productions representative told CVG that Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain will be one game, Metal Gear Solid V, as Hideo Kojima stated in his GDC 2013 presentation and is opposite of what Konami PR director Jay Boor said. No details were given on how they will be distributed, meaning there is a possibility for two separate releases.

ORIGINAL: Hideo Kojima kicked off his presentation at the 2013 Game Developers Conference with a new trailer running on the Fox Engine. Was it Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes? Was it The Phantom Pain? Nope it was both and combined they make Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Kojima himself confirmed.

Along with plenty of new footage, the trailer featured clips from both the previously released Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain trailers. MGSV’s story finds Big Boss waking up from a 9 year coma after Mother Base came under attack from an unknown enemy. Kaz Miller and a man who could be Ocelot appear in the trailer as well.

MGSV will release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. No word on a release date at this time.

We will have the trailer available as soon as possible. Stay tuned to PSU for breaking news on Metal Gear and more.

UPDATE 1: We now have the trailer uploaded, viewable here.

UPDATE 2: Hideo Kojima tweeted that Ground Zeroes is the name of the prologue section of MGS V. The main poriton of the game is titile The Phantom Pain and takes place after Ground Zeroes and Big Boss’s 9 year coma.

UPDATE 3: Konami Director of Public Relations Jay Boor told Siliconera, “Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are two separate games. GZ will be a prologue to The Phantom Pain.”
