Finally, all the confusion behind Moby Dick Studios/Joakim Mogren, The Phantom Pain, and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes was cleared up with the announcement of Metal Gear Solid V. Hideo Kojima unveiled the game’s first trailer at his GDC 2013 presentation in San Francisco earlier today.
At the end of Peace Walker, Big Boss told Kaz Miller that the biggest enemy they would be fighting is "the times." If the MGSV trailer is any indication, Big Boss and his "Army without Borders" will be up against much more than that. Filled with mysterious new characters, possibly some returning faces, a Mother Base under siege, and an unknown enemy, players will have to take control of a damaged, battle scarred Big Boss who just awoke from a 9 year coma.
MGSV: The Phantom Pain contains both the games formerly known as MGS: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. It’s announcement trailer contains old footage from both games’ reveal trailers. Kojima stated the earlier section of the game will start with mainly linear gameplay before expanding to open world gameplay that will allow players to choose different approaches to the game’s missions.
MGSV will release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles and no release date or window is available at this time. No word on if there will be a PS4 version. This announcement trailer is running in real-time on a PC build of the game. Kojima previously said the video footage of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes trailer was running on a PC comparable to PS3.
