EA set to make Star Wars games for 10 years

Speaking at the UBS conference last night, Electronic Arts Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen reveled that Disney and EA have agreed to a deal to create Star Wars games for the next ten years.

"We had a long relationship obviously with Lucas on the original Star Wars, and when Disney took over Lucas they really wanted to maintain a video game business around Star Wars," said Jorgensen.

Jorgensen also mentioned that EA will not be creating any games based on for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII or any of its sequels, but did mentioned that assets will be shared from the films. "We’ve done movie games over the years and we wanted to make sure that we weren’t doing a movie game–a game based on the movie."The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is that it’s so broad and so deep, you don’t have to do a movie game–you can do a game that’s very focused on the world that’s been created around Star Wars."

The last bit of information that was reveled was that both Visceral Game and BioWare will both be working on Star Wars games. BioWare already has experience with Star Wars, working on the award winning Knights of the Old Republic franchise. Meanwhile, Visceral Games of Dead Space fame will be taking a stab on the franchise for the first time. Both studios will be joining DICE who are currently working on a new Star Wars: Battlefront.
