Speaking during an interview with Joystiq, a 2K Sports representative has confirmed that the MLB 2K series has retired its sporting services.
The representative said that the publisher "decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014. We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including NBA 2K – our industry’s #1 rated and #1 selling basketball franchise."
This decision is likely attributed to the poor reception that surrounded MLB 2K13, among other unspoken factors. It was hammered for not sufficiently upgrading the formula over its predecessor, leaving a lackluster impression on the community.
With the MLB 2K series off the market, PlayStation-exclusive MLB: The Show will certainly reap the benefits of MLB 2K’s unfortunate discontinuance now that it is the only baseball representative up and running.
