Square Enix reveals Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn patch 2.2 details

Square Enix has revealed the details of Through the Maelstrom, the next patch to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

The reveals came in the form of a live stream, where Naoki Yoshida, the game’s producer, and Hiroshi Takai, Assistant Director, responded to questions put to them on the game’s official forums by its players as well as showing off some of the game’s upcoming content. However, the stream isn’t available to watch again yet, but we gleaned the key news from an official thread that contains the responses.

The biggest revelation was that the patch will land out in March, which is only two months after this month’s introduction of 2.1, A Realm Awoken.

The details of expected new content was explored in the public interview. The Binding Coil of Bahamut was known to be expanding, but it has been confirmed that it will be an expansion of four new turns. It has also been confirmed that the new Ruins of Ampador dungeon will reveal the cause of Ampador’s destruction.

The fight against the Leviathan, a new Primal, was also touched upon. However, the most notable response involved a mention that the game’s first expansion pack is already under development; it’s likely to be long until release.

Other less obvious, but equally important, changes are those to the gameplay. A notable one pertains to housing prices, where the item level is being raised and new items introduced. It was stated that these item developments are expected to bring big changes to the economy.

Check out The Lodestone to find out more, including the mention of new quests that will be provided by regular character Hildebrand.

These updates aren’t quite as major as those in patch 2.1, which introduced housing for free companies and beast tribe daily quests, among other things. Take a look on the The Lodestone for more detailing what’s in the current patch.
