God of War dev relocating out of Santa Monica

The developer behind the God of War franchise has announced plans to relocate out of Santa Monica and into the Playa Vista area of Los Angeles, California.

As reported by Variety, Sony Santa Monica Studio, who is currently working on the upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive The Order: 1886, confirmed plans to relocate this summer to a new “20-acre facility on Jefferson Boulevard in Playa Vista,’ some five miles outside its current location.

What isn’t known, however, is whether or not the company plans to change its name following the move.

"We took some time to hone in on location," commented Sony Santa Monica’s Founder and Head of Studio, Shannon Studstill. “We love Santa Monica. It’s been our home for over a decade."

According to Studstill, Santa Monica Studio’s new home offers “four or five times” the space currently available, including extra conference rooms, improved sound bay and a motion capture studio.

The Order: 1886 is scheduled for release in fall 2014.
