Red Dead Redemption 2 already in the works, but don’t expect an E3 reveal — rumor

Red Dead Redemption 2 is in development but unlikely to see the light of day at E3 this year, industry insider ‘Shinobi602’ has said on Twitter (via GamePur).

The gossip comes in light of Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick’s comments that the publisher perceives Red Dead as a ‘permanent franchise,’ strongly hinting that a follow-up to John Marston’s classic Wild West outing is on the way.

Turns out, it is indeed in development, says Shinobi602, though we’re unlikely to get an announcement in Los Angeles early next month.

Quizzed on Twitter if the game was in the works, he wrote, “Yes there is.” As for an E3 reveal, he added, “Eh I doubt it, Rockstar never debuts their games at E3.”

Red Dead started out life with Red Dead Revolver back in 2004 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. However, it would be another six years until the series returned with the multi-million selling Red Dead Redemption, which propelled the series from cult hit to commercial juggernaut.

We know that Rockstar is prepping its first PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game for early 2015, but smart money’s on a port of Grand Theft Auto V, not a new Red Dead — at least, not yet.

Let’s hope Shinobi602 is on the money with this one, eh? Stay tuned to PSU for more details.
