Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) boss Jim Ryan has spoken on the success of PlayStation 4 as the console celebrates its first anniversary in PAL regions today.
In its first year on the market, PS4 has managed to outsell its leading rival, the Xbox One from Microsoft, establishing itself as the go-to next-generation games console.
The system has been buoyed since launch with a number of exclusives games, including Killzone: Shadow Fall, inFAMOUS: Second Son, Knack, War Thunder, The Last of Us: Remastered, and DRIVECLUB, plus major third-party releases such as Watch_Dogs, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Grand Theft Auto V.
Speaking on the milestone, Ryan commented: "How time flies. Just 12 short months ago today, PlayStation 4 arrived in stores across the SCEE region, ushering in an exciting new epoch in videogaming.
"The most powerful and socially connected gaming system ever built, PS4 has provided the perfect platform for developers to deliver extraordinary experiences, and its first year has hosted some truly memorable titles.”
"And the best bit? This is just the beginning," he teased. "The next 12 months will see the PS4’s burgeoning game library continue to grow at pace, with blockbuster new titles from both our teams at Worldwide Studios, including Bloodborne, The Order 1886 and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and from our third party partners – look out for Batman Arkham Knight from Warner Bros., No Man’s Sky from Hello Games and Evolve from 2K Games, to name but a few."
PS4 has sold over 13.5 million units of hardware worldwide since its launch.
