Michael Fassbender, the producer and star of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed feature film, has confirmed that the project will finally begin shooting this September.
Speaking with Comingsoon, Fassbender, who his perhaps best known for his role in the X-Men series as portraying the young Magneto, explained the reasons behind the film’s lengthy development process.
“You say it’s a long time but what I’ve found–it’s all new to me but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time,” he said. “It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It’s exciting. It’s going to start this year, we’ll be filming in September.”
Fassbender also played down suggestions that he will be playing the role of Desmond Miles in the film, and spoke a little on picking a specific game and time period to represent in the movie.
“You don’t know that. Don’t listen to what they tell you, that’s the first rule,” he said.
“That’s always the challenge of something that’s so dense, to really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things. So yes, that is part of it, getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story.”
Fassbender is currently starring in Slow West, which opens on May 15. Assassin’s Creed is scheduled for release in cinemas in holiday 2016, with production now underway.
