Yesterday, PlayStation Japan launched the official game page for Persona 5, unveiling a slew of high-quality, official screenshots in the process.
We’ve uploaded all of the screenshots to our game gallery, so check those out. Below is a smattering of our favorites.
A series of successful Western releases, most notably with Persona 4 Golden on PS Vita, have catapulted the long-running JRPG series into global renown. Persona games often focus on a group of friends and students who fight supernatural forces unbeknownst to the rest of society.
In Persona 3, you had Tartarus, a massive tower dungeon that only became visible during the Dark Hour, a 25th hour between one day and the next. In Persona 4, the protagonists explored the realms within the Midnight Channel, a mysterious television program that seemed to predict when people in the real world would die.
It’s unclear what supernatural, occult, or otherwise otherworldly presence will provide the narrative impetus for Persona 5’s heroes to start summoning Personae in battle. But we know that series creators are drawing inspiration from genre classics like Lupin the Third, creating protagonists that operate on the wrong side of the law but usually for honorable reasons.
One thing’s for sure: Persona 5 is stylish as hell, running on a modified and improved version of the engine behind Catherine, ATLUS’ cult classic horror-puzzle game. Its gameplay trailer from a couple months back speaks to that. Systems that players are familiar with, like the Press Turn battle system and Social Links for character development, look set to return.
Thanks for the tip, Gematsu.
