Horizon: Zero Dawn heroine inspired by Terminator’s Sarah Connor

Guerrilla Games has revealed that the main protagonist in Horizon: Zero Dawn was inspired by Hollywood film icons such as Sarah Connor (The Terminator) and Ellen Ripley (Alien).

Speaking with Paradiger via Twitter, Game Director Mathijs de Jonge revealed that the Amsterdam-based studio needed a ‘strong’ character for its new PlayStation 4 project.

He cited female leads such as Connor and Ripley as characters who inspired Aloy, although noted they were looking for someone younger than those two examples.

Horizon: Zero Dawn was announced at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference after more than 18 months of rumors. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting, where players fend off machine-like foes with a series of primitive weapons.

Guerrilla has confirmed that the game will run at 1080p/30fps, with multiplayer unlikely to be included. Horizon is due for release some time in 2016. Read our E3 2015 preview here.
