Horizon: Zero Dawn won’t have guns, and here’s why

The developer behind Horizon: Zero Dawn has explained why there won’t be any firearms in the studio’s upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive action title.

Speaking with EDGE magazine, the game’s director, Mathijs De Jong, said "it’s just spray and pray" should the player be giving a machine gun, resulting in Horizon becoming just like any other cover-based shooter. Instead, the Amsterdam-based studio wanted to have a primitive feel to the proceedings.

Furthermore, EDGE also got to see a battle played out from a four-year-old prototype, which depicts the same battle as the E3 2015 trailer featuring the mechanical T-Rex, albeit with a Killzone character wielding a machine gun.

As a result, the battle played out in a less menacing manner, the publication noted.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is due out on PS4 in 2016. The game was announced during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, and is expected to run at 1080p/30fps. Check out our preview here and have a look at the latest concept art.
