Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 pulled in over $550 million in revenue worldwide during its first three days on sale, becoming the ‘biggest entertainment launch of the year.’
The impressive figure, which includes copies of the game sold though may or may not feature those included in the PS4 bundle, is "bigger than any game, any movie, or any entertainment launch this year." This also tops Halo 5: Guardians on Xbox One, which enjoyed a successful release last month pulling in $400 million in revenue after one week on sale, a record for the former Bungie-developed franchise.
The publishing giant also confirmed that Black Ops 3’s sales ‘rose significantly’ in the three days after its November 6 release over that of Call of Duty: Advanced and Call of Duty: Ghosts. Furthermore, the military shooter saw an increase of nearly 100 percent in downloaded copies of the game over last year’s Advanced Warfare for PS4 and Xbox One.
Black Ops 3’s accomplishments didn’t stop there, however. It also set a new all-time record for ‘engagement’ per player, which means gamers played it for more hours per player than any other game in the venerable first-person shooter series. Activision added that online matches logged over 75 million hours between November 6-8.
Sony previously said that PS4 is the ‘best place’ to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, while the game topped the U.K. All Format Chart selling through 91 percent of all copies on current-generation formats.
